  Are You Proud of Your Country?

  some people are of the opinion that it doesn't make any sense to be proud of one's nationality because we had nothing to do with where we were born.

  the decision wasn't ours.

  they opine that it's ludicrous to be proud of our countries' prior achievements if we had no part in those achievements because we weren't even around then.

  That's my understanding of pride. Whatever I accomplish, nothing else is a source of pride. I can only go as far as deriving pride from how my children turn out because I had a lot to do with it.

  I feel no pride or shame from other people's accomplishments, even if they share my genes.

  Inculcating patriotism is just another form of mind control. I may feel lucky that I live in a country of the West, especially Europe or Northamerica, but no pride. I can also decide to defend the country I live in by using reasoning. No need for emotional manipulation, as it s often done in patriotic speeches and rallies.

  on the jw construction situation in the last few years.. first, why did they discontinue the rbc arrangement and institute the ldc arrangement?

  was it for more and/or better control?

  No sales here yet (Burbank and the east side of San Fernando Valley in Southern California), but consolidations definitely are taking place. My wife's congo gone. My brother in law's congo gone too. Just a matter of time and kingdom halls will be gone too. Praise the Lord.

  It was 12 years ago the Watchtower sold an assembly hall for several million dollar located in an expensive area (Woodland Hills) and the brothers and sisters were given a cheap hall where the land is cheap too (likely under a million the whole thing) 70 miles away.

  a thread began some 10 years ago when our friend atlantis made a pdf available of jws modern history book.

  yes, that book is available on my 2015 library cd but only certain chapters.

  naturally, wt eliminated certain entire chapters and you can only guess why.

  it's my first time on this site though i am no stranger in the ex-jw community.

  i come to you now asking for your assistance in what to present to the dean of students at my university.. why am i meeting with dean of students, you may ask?

  because today, while innocently finishing an assignment in the school library, i happened to look out the window and see the jws with their stupid little cart.

  I feel your pain. I have gone through similar emotions of disgust and anger. Find publication that show how the Watchtower discourages higher education and present them to the Dean. That should be a good start.

  i am just 17. many of you here are much older than me.. i do feel that offering advice here is like teaching my father how to fuck.

  but seriously, i do see the problem here.

  we are focusing more on the problem than the solution.. i have been reading mind power books for quite some time.

  By mentally exiting the cult you won the war, everything else are pesky skirmishes. You are in control of your mind now! And that's one hell of a victory.

  Mom and dad made their choices and they may even be happy as it is. Focus your efforts mainly in making the best of your newly earned freedom

  Detroit the movie on Netflix anybody seen it ?

  a movie about the riots in the seventies in the city of detroit but especially with the reason for the riots and the attitude of police and how the nation treated people of colour.

  and how they treated them and how the justice system failed them .. based on a true story.

  i found it very confronting yet compelling to watch.. humans have a tendency to lump everybody together in the same basket ,however we are not all the same, their is good and bad in every race and culture whether they are black, white or brindle .. anybody seen it and like to comment ?.

  Not seen it. I can't watch movies where there's gross injustices that try to describe historical events. Often I feel that the scriptwriter or the directors take liberties to make bad people look even worse and good people look even better. I rather read an account of the event that attempts to be as objective as possible, giving the good and the bad of both sides and let the reader decide.

  I may watch the movie just as an introduction to the subject, not the final word

  Wow!, first time ever that I see the Watchtower organizing an event that is not for the worship and monetary benefit of the Watchtower. Were there donation boxes? I bet you there were. I bet you the event this year started with a deficit, because the surplus from the previous year was donated to the not-happening-construction fund.
